Dalai Lama, the spiritual head of Tibetan Buddhists, expressed sadness and distress over the plight of the Rohingyas in Myanmar.

He said that “Those people…harassing some Muslims…should remember, Buddha definitely would have helped those poor Muslims,”

Rohingyas are a Bengali speaking ethnic community that is discriminated and persecuted in Myanmar, a Buddhist majority country. They are stateless citizens and in the recent crackdown on Rohingyas by the Myanmar military, around 3 lakh people have fled to neighboring Bangladesh.

Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, a militant Rohingya group, has declared the ceasefire and is requesting the government to allow humanitarian tasks.

Myanmar’s de facto civilian leader and Nobel peace laureate, Aung San Su Kyi, is under severe international criticism for not speaking anything on the plight of the Rohingyas.
