In a recent development, it has been announced that the hospitals in Delhi cannot turn away a patient admitted in a critical condition just because they do not have facilities. Recently, a newborn girl lost her life because the family could not get ventilator support in four state-run hospitals and the development came after two days of this incident. A patient, if critically ill can’t be turned away from the hospital. She will be shifted to the right facility.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal directed Health Minister Satyendar Jain to submit an action plan within a week to ensure that seriously ill patients do not suffer for their inability to find place in the hospitals.

It has been found that critically-ill patients often have to face difficulties due to non-availability of beds. A similar incident took place in Kolkata wherein the victim approached the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after he was turned away by hospitals.
