Marora, a tiny village of Haryana in the Mewat region, just 70 km from Delhi, has chosen the name of US President Donald Trump, hoping that it will lead to more attention for their village. But 400 residents of the village have no clue who Donald Trump is, they just know he is some famous and powerful man. They are hoping that this gimmick will help in the construction of free toilets in their village.

Trump Sulabh village, is not an official name, and won’t appear on maps. It is part of charity efforts by Sulabh International to draw more aid for better sanitation in India.

The villages are very happy that all the houses in their village will have simple pit toilets.

“I don’t understand why they couldn’t name it after our own prime minister,” said construction worker Sajid Hussain to Hindustan Times.

Bindeshwar Pathak, the founder of Sulabh Charity, said that naming the village after Trump was a publicity stunt. He wants to highlight attention towards the lack of sanitation facilities in India.

More than 60% of India’s 1.3 billion people defecate in the open.
