Ever since childhood days, one fact always remained constant that only either a glass of chilled Rooh Afza or an ice-cream candy has the ability to cool you down in a blazing summer season. But recent studies have found that consumption of a hot cup of tea helps the body to cool down in summers. While chai (tea) is India’s favorite, many few people know about its incredible benefit in the summer season.

Science Behind it

All this is related to sweating of body and the evaporation of sweat. Consumption of a hot cup of tea leads to more sweating than normal in the body. A sudden increase in body temperature due to hot tea results in the increase of overall sweat output of the body to normalize the increased internal temperature of the body. And as more sweat starts evaporating from the body it causes greater heat loss as well which in turn cools down the body more effectively during high mercury levels.

Tea also assists in the greater secretion of saliva due to the presence of sugar, amino acids, and pectin.

Apparently, this is the reason that our ancestors never stopped drinking tea and also, people never abstain from having a glass of cutting chai even in summers under a small roadside tapri. So, the next time when you feel hot; have a cup of tea instead of a glass of cola.
