Arvind Kejriwal has introduced another pro-people reform in the healthcare sector, which will be welcomed by the people. Delhi residents who are unable to get a surgery done within 30 days in a government hospital, can get the surgery done in 48 private hospitals, without paying anything. The Delhi government will foot the bill.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said “We lay emphasis on health and education, there will be no dearth of funds for this scheme”

The patient will need to submit his residence proof with the referral by government hospital to the private hospital and an authorisation form to the nodal officer of Delhi Arogya Kosh.

Free surgery scheme was announced because Delhi government hospitals are overcrowded and in some cases, patients have to wait for an entire year for surgery. Patients will have the choice to chose any of the 48 hospitals, but the free surgery facility is only available for 52 types of surgeries.

Delhi government hailed the step as revolutionary and historic, while the critics say that the government should focus on improving the infrastructure of government hospitals instead.

Delhi state Health Minister Manish Sisodia said that we are committed to improving education and healthcare because they are the foundation of a nation.
